The ASW45 stand-alone controller is designed to activate (via potential-free relay contacts) executive devices that are elements of the fire protection system, such as fans, signaling devices and smoke vents.
Actuating devices are activated by the module after detecting smoke by the OSD23 or OSD63 detectors. It is deactivated approximately 30 seconds after the detector stops signaling the presence of smoke.
The principle of operation (expand/collapse)
The actuators are controlled by potential-free relay contacts. The position of the relay anchor in the quiescent mode is set with the NC/NO jumper – see: technical data.
When at least one detector connected to the controller detects the presence of smoke in the air, the relay anchor will be switched into alarm mode. The detector in the alarm state increases the current consumption in the detection line from 50uA to 20mA.
The alarm condition is signaled by the AL indicator lighting up. After a smoke alarm signal from the detector, the module automatically resets the detection line, unless the red jumper has been cut. Cutting the red jumper will “latch” the alarm status of a given detector – then the alarm status can be cleared either by switching off the power supply or by using the switch attached to the RESET terminals.
After the smoke stops, when the detector stops alarming after a reset (or auto-reset), the relay contacts remain in the alarm position for about 30 seconds, unless the black jumper has been cut – cutting this jumper will cause the alarm to not “stall” on the relay contacts.
Connecting any bistable, normally open switch to terminals 1 and 2 (MANUAL SWITCH ON DEVICE) enables permanent switching of the relay from the quiescent mode to the alarm mode. This allows for activation of the actuator regardless of the state of the detectors.
Connecting any monostable NO switch to terminals 5 and 6 (RESET) enables resetting the alarm state of the detectors – this function is used if the autoreset function is disabled in the controller.
The state of the relay contacts in various operating states of the device depends on the setting of the NC/NO jumper available in the form of an extended blue wire loop.
- NC setting (default – jumper not cut): without power, contacts 9 with 10 and 12 with 13 closed, after power supply, contacts 10 with 11 and 13 with 14 closed, during alarm and tamper, contacts 9 with 10 and 12 with 13 closed
- NO setting (jumper cut): without power, contacts 9 with 10 and 12 with 13 closed, after power supply, contacts 9 with 10 and 12 with 13 closed, during alarm and tamper, contacts 10 with 11 and 13 with 14 closed
The controller is equipped with short-circuit protection of the detection line. A short-circuit of the line causes the line voltage to be switched off, the relay to be switched into the alarm mode and the SAB indicator to be lit continuously and the AL indicator to flash. After removing the short-circuit, the controller will automatically enter the quiescent mode.
Similarly to a short-circuit, the controller reacts to removing the detector from the socket or a break in the line – the so-called SABOTAGE. Then the relay will switch and the SAB indicator will be on continuously. WARNING ! Terminating resistor = 2.7kΩ must be installed in the last socket.
You can eliminate the switching of the relay in the event of a sabotage or short-circuit in the line by cutting the yellow jumper – the indicator lights will remain unchanged.
